Also, some very exciting news! We will soon have Mariage Frères French tea in the shop.

I am obsessed with Mariage Frères tea and have been courting them for two years about stocking the collection at Nannie Inez, no joke! Mariage Frères has very limited distribution outside of France and I'm thrilled to announce we'll be carrying their loose, bagged and iced tea later this month!

Mariage Frères' emporium is located in Le Marais in Paris and has been a must-stop of mine for years. Their teas are the finest quality and make for a delicious, luxurious gift. The loose tea and tea bags are available for preorder now—we're expecting them to arrive a week before Christmas. Click here to preorder!

Simple steps for a warm holiday gathering

The holidays are here, and whether your style tends to be more traditional or more minimal, these three parts are essential to seasonal gatherings.

Home fragrance goes a long way in making your home feel comfortable and inviting. Whether you prefer to use an aromatherapy diffuser, light a candle, or create a simmering potpourri on the stove, bring in the warmth of the season with scents of cranberries, orange, clove, and cinnamon.

One must for entertaining is having small bites available to taste in between lively conversation. A cheese plate is simply put together using two to three cheeses. We recommend something sharp, something fresh, and something creamy for variety. Pair the cheeses with crusty bread, crackers, nuts, and dried or fresh fruit.

When hosting a holiday gathering, the table is often the primary focus. Setting the table is similar to putting together a room. Thoughtfulness in choosing pieces goes a long way. It is entirely possible to put together an elegant and minimal tablescape using just a few elements. Plates act as the grounding element, while glassware and flatware are the supporting statement-makers. Linen napkins are the perfect way to introduce color and texture into an otherwise monochromatic tablescape. Seasonal greenery brings the outdoors inside and lends freshness to the scene.

We hope these few suggestions will help you put together a fun party with the ones you love most. After all, it is spending time with those we love that is the most important thing of all.

What do you like to do most at home?

I spend a lot of my time in the car and in and out of meetings so I love to just sit in my house and cuddle with my pups while listening to some records or watching some stupid reality TV show (depending on how the day has gone).

Morning routine?

Feed the dogs (they demand this comes first) follow by washing my face and pouring a big cup of coffee to drink while I catch up on emails. I can't function without my morning coffee.

What does your home say about you?

My home says that I love plants and pink :) My home is an ever changing experiment of color, furniture and texture and I think shows that I like to have fun with design and want my clients to too!

Favorite room and why?

Probably my living room. I love the changing sunlight that comes in throughout the day and love the collection of new, vintage, family heirlooms and custom made furniture I have scattered around. I have a story for every piece in that room.

What's one special piece in your home that you bought while traveling and what's the story behind it?

Probably my round basket bag. I found it on one of my first small town Texas antiquing road trips with my boyfriend Scott. We've been on many since but I have never found a piece that I love so much. The shape is so bold and architectural.

Favorite Nannie Inez designer and why?

Oh man, I love them all! Currently crushing on Gubi. Their pieces are so whimsical and thoughtfully designed. It is like buying a piece of art for your house.

Three ways to bring the warmth of autumn into your home

Autumn’s cooler temperatures and darker nights beg for the warmth of a welcoming home. Inviting a change of seasons into your home is easy by practicing these few tips:

Add dimension to your room by layering warmer textures and colors. Use a knit throw or plush sheepskin to ward off the chill and encourage cozier nights. Adding accents in richer colors, like dark green and aubergine, bring in the colors of the season.

Autumn is all about layering, and it doesn't stop with your blankets and pillows. Using candles and soft lighting adds warmth and depth to your space. Trading overhead lights in favor of the softer glow of a lamp will offer the perfect ambiance to an evening at home. And we all know there is nothing more comforting than a flickering candle.

Lastly, don’t overlook the importance of scent in the mood of your home. Whether through a softly burning candle, aromatherapy diffuser, or incense, having a background fragrance of rich autumnal notes does wonders to make your home feel comfortable and welcoming.

Finding your design style when building your home

This is the third installment in our series of building our home. Click here for part one and part two.

When you are building your home, especially when working with an architect to create your plan, it is important to determine your design aesthetic. A person will never fit perfectly into one genre of design. Each individual is a blend of their unique experiences and preferences and so when you are searching for design inspiration, keep a collection of things that catch your eye. While traveling and living abroad, we recorded architecture we liked as well as home functionality. Magazines, design books, social media are all helpful tools as well.

Pinterest was one of our most valuable tools in curating our images. We created a board for every detail of the home, from the bedroom and kitchen to the landscaping, to hold our inspirations, ideas, and comments. As you start collecting images, an overall design eventually reveals itself. For Deeyn and myself, we obviously have an affinity for minimalist design, as did the architect that we chose, so it was relatively easy to agree on our options. We worked with DIG:A to plan our home and really appreciated their attention to detail.

We picked up the kitchen appliances and functionality of European design while living in London. A trip to Japan inspired our bathroom designs, such as Toto sinks and toilets and finishes of stone and glass. We also knew that having smart home technology integration was crucial. We were adamantly against wasted space and focused on a design that was completely functional. Our trips to Denmark and France influenced the materials we chose: light woods, marble, lava stone, and bronze and copper fixtures as well as the interior details minimal cabinetry without pulls, herringbone parquet floors, large glass windows, and doors. The blend of these different design aesthetics made our home unique to us and tells our story as soon as you walk through the doors. We wouldn't have it any other way.

What do you like to do most at home?

Kick back on the couch with my husband, dog and cat. I love it when we're all cramped together watching a movie.

Morning routine?

I work at home in a backyard studio so on weekdays, I'm anxious to get out there and start right away. I'll usually make an iced coffee, work a couple of hours, then eat cereal or toast.

On weekends, no alarms allowed!

What does your home say about you?

I like classic, clean design but have a special place for antiques and family mementos. I'm a tomboy. I love nature and collections. I love to travel.

At first glance, you would think I'm tidy but you should see the closets.

Favorite room and why?

Oddly enough, our bathroom. A hot shower with candles is my favorite way to chill out before bed.

What's one special piece in your home that you bought while traveling and what's the story behind it?

I have a tumbleweed in my studio (pictured above) that I scooped up on a road trip with a few girlfriends in Marfa. In West Texas, you can stop just about anywhere and pick through piles of them. The picture on the right is all of us in the car... somehow we managed to bring home a couple each!

Favorite Nannie Inez designer and why?

Tough to choose just one, but I've gotta go with HAY.
The products and the details they put into them are just so damn clever. Take the DLM Table, for example. The table is light and has a handle so you can move it around easily from room to room. DLM stands for 'Don't Leave Me'. I smiled so big when Deeyn told me the meaning behind the name.

Dressing your Walls

The best wall art tells a story, creates a mood, or adds some interest to your space. It is more than finding something to coordinate with the rest of your room; it is important to select a piece that inspires you every time you see it. Today we're highlighting the art from two Danish artists that will be the perfect addition to your space.

Kristina Krogh is an incredible Danish artist who favors clean lines, geometric shapes and contrasting patterns and textures that add interest to her pieces. We couldn't be happier to carry her gorgeously detailed artwork.

These Behind Blinds prints are an interpretation of the play between shadows and light and changes in shapes and the stories that emerge according to how the light falls.

Her Black Sun collection features thousands of dots printed by hand, which mimic the sunset migrational flight patterns of starlings. The starlings gather in large numbers in the marshlands of Jutland, Denmark and rise in massive formations as they choose a location to roost for the night. These prints are beautiful and delicate, offering natural inspiration in a minimalist tone.

Monika Peterson is another talented Danish artist who focuses on printmaking using hand-carved linocuts and a printing press to create limited edition prints of bold graphics, contrasting bright colors with dark backgrounds. By creating such intricate designs by hand, Petersen's highlights the little details seen in some of the simplest of objects.

Two of her newest prints we are carrying are the stunning Gold Poppy, on both white or black, and the fun Yellow Lemon. Each print is made by hand, creating a unique piece each time.
