Being an outgoing introvert, I love being with friends and hosting gatherings, but I prefer to keep them on the smaller side, usually inviting four to six people. The most important aspect of entertaining is to be relaxed and comfortable because your energy affects your guests, so I know my limits! Entertaining at home is great because everything has a casual air and the evening can dissolve into hours of good conversation over lots of wine.
When preparing for a gathering, I always make sure the house is tidy, and I have a subtle home fragrance in the background. A home that smells nice puts you instantly at ease. Fresh flowers are another simple touch that add a bright elegance to the most casual get together.
Before our guests arrive, we load a playlist in Tidal to set the mood and pop open a bottle of rose. When the weather is nice, we open our sliding glass doors so we can enjoy the greenery and the quiet creek that flows just behind our patio. Summer entertaining is great, but mosquitos are not, so here's my pro-tip: We never have guests out on our patio without offering them a spritz of Viriditas Botanicals all natural mosquito repellent. It's a blend of essential oils, and I'm amazed at how well it works!
One last real insider tip: when we are entertaining outside, I always light a couple of sticks of incense and place them around the patio. When the breeze blows, and you catch a subtle waft of fig perfume, it's pretty magical. The French incense we carry burns for up to an hour, so you can easily give your night a hint of enchantment.
Some version of this playlist is always playing in the background when we entertain at home. Click the link below if you’d like to check it out for your next gathering.
