Anchorage — Landing on the frozen asphalt of the airport, lost between the ocean and snowcapped peaks. From the coldness of the quickly-thawing landscape, there arise fragrant green and woody scents, breaths of wild plants and resins.

Aoyama — Damp wood, incense, and freshly laundered linen, evoke for Sonya Park the typical smell of an old, Japanese wooden house from the neighborhood of Aoyama. Exquisite traces of chic Patchouli (damp wood), smoked wood (Gaiac and Vetiver) and Cloves. A harmonious Moss accord, accentuates the feeling of freshness.

Atelier de Balthus — The painter’s workshop is seen in a snapshot frame of the mind’s eye – wood-panelled, with green meadows stretching out beyond a huge bay window. Pale northern sunlight streams delicately across a still life of paint brushes, palettes, pots, half-finished canvases, and rags still wet with linseed oil. In the air is a heady scent of turpentine, which comingles with wisps of sweet smoke, along with honey, woods, tobacco and cedar wood from the forests beyond.

Awaji — Made in the Japanese island of Awaji, using ancestral traditions and techniques, its delicate smoke exhales a delicate scent of driftwood, resins, jasmine and immortelle. Legend has it that, one day, a trunk of Agar wood was washed onto the beach. The island dwellers burned it, and the smell was so intoxicating that they decided to offer it as a gift to the Emperor, and later on erect a sanctuary.

Buenos Aires — Buenos Aires overflows with vitality and elegance. On a summer night, in an old, lively quarter of the city, sip a drink on the terrace of a milonga, as the figures of tango dancers sway in the darkness. And let yourself be intoxicated by the languorous rhythm of the music and the exquisite scent of white flowers carried on the warm breeze.

Delhi — Careering by rickshaw through narrow streets in The Old Town. A torpid atmosphere. Scents of a thousand different spices flood your nostrils. Betel, Styrax, Musk, Myrrh. Grey clouds of smoked Vanilla wood. Beedies of herbs and eucalyptus.

Hollywood — A new mythical fragrance rises over Sunset Boulevard: a delicate dusting of iris and patchouli leads us down the yellow brick road of Hollywood studios, blending with the sunny cedarwood, eucalyptus and vetiver scents of Southern California’s luxuriant vegetation.

Kingston — Everywhere in the Jamaican capital hovers an enchanting and delicious scent of woody, earthy vetiver with a touch of patchouli and fresh green grapefruit.

Namche Bazar — Black tea with its scent of dried hay and slight smokiness of tobacco. Breathe with pleasure the scented streams of Patchouli, Yerbe Maté and Musk, tempered by the delicate freshness of Verveine and Aromatic Lavender.

Opera — The splendour of the Palais Garnier. Ballet movements in the Great Hall: entrechats, pas de deux, ronds de jambes upon sumptuous parquet floors, polished with beeswax. Richly upholstered foyers reach to the very roof of the Opera, where thick streams of honey are collected from hives which spread forth giddying notes of Absolute Beeswax, rendered sublime by minute additions of Sandlewood and Styrax resin.

Oulan Bator —  Wild escape upon a desert steppe. An encampment, a herd of goats. Crude, supple leather steeped in tobacco and wood smoke from the campfires. Ambergris and Angelica Root essence

Porte des Lilas — A dream of times past: next stop, Porte des Lilas. At the exit of the celebrated 20s metro station, the stairs bring the delighted voyager to alleys neatly bordered by pretty little houses, with mauve lilacs overflowing their garden fences. One is enraptured by the delicious and verdant fragrances, mixed here and there with puffs of rose and jasmine.

Stockholm — The interlaced lanes and cobblestones in this pastel and ochre old city, hide the secret address of the famous Swedish Bitters Elixir "from Maria's herb garden." King Gustav II used to give it to his Viking warriors to render them invincible. An inebriating mixture of wild plants, aloe, clove, lavandin and myrrh escapes from the bottle.

Tucson — Planted in the Arizona desert, surrounded by giant cactuses with amazing shapes, stands Tucson. Wander downtown, along streets lined by colourful houses. Crushed by the heat, take a break in the shadow of a mesquite, watered by a little glass of mezcal. Intoxicating scents of the Far West float in the air: lightly smokey and sweet aromas of wild grasses, parched wood, immortelle flowers, and red earth, burnt by the sun.

Villa Medicis — Along the length of the artists’ workshops, with their large windows opening over the rooftops of Rome, run the majestic gardens of the Villa. A centre for encounters and for meditation, the residents delight in the subtle fragrances of lemon tree leaves, lavender and oregano flowers. The air thrills with the woody aroma of the tall cedars nearby, and the inexpressible fragrance of the ancient stones in the heat of the sun.
